2008 Ourientation

This is a page for folks to coordinate revising and re-printing the Dis-O guide. Yay. We can start printing even now, because we've got the plates done, and the press is working more or less. We can do another (more extensively updated/revised) version in the Spring because we can get more money for the Spring semester, and there'll be more time also (and some people interested via the Democratize the Regents decal).

Updates

Dec 21.

Talked with David and Matt. Got invoice to submit to GA. The AB Dick Press is running well - the Guttenberg folks just finished a 1,500 copy run of their ~20-page second issue. The supplies seem to be in good order. See below for a list of specific tasks needing doing.

Timeline

Here's a proposed calendar (feel free to amend or add suggestions)

Pages Needing Revision

These are just the pages that are must-do's:

  1. Cover - p i
  2. Table of Contents - p. 1
  3. Save the Oaks - pp. 4 & 5

  4. Democratize the Regents - p. 15
  5. Phoenix Coalition - p. 25
  6. Which Union (contd) - p. 31

Specific Tasks

  1. cutting 2-3 boxes of parent sheets into 11x17 sheets (boxes have anywhere from 350-1600+ parent sheets in them, and each parent sheet makes about 4 11x17 sheets). The 'silk' boxes in between the folding machine and the combustibles cabinet seem like a good option.
  2. printing 6 new film sheets with the revised articles
  3. burning 13 plate sides for the AB Dick, which will give us a total of 20 plate sides (7 of the 11x17 sides are already on AB Dick plates and don't need any article revisions).
  4. getting in touch with Joe to see about fixing the folding machine

Stuff to add

We should decide how many pages we want to add, and what that will mean for reformatting (cause the plates already have page numbers on them)

  1. Activism Calendar (a page with significant recurring events/dates - such as welcome week, Regents meetings, solstice, may day, whatever)
  2. Order of the Golden Bear - see http://www.caldisorientation.org/CalsSecretSociety

  3. others??

Printing info

It looks like BAAP should be our best option. We could go with a cheap newsprint run in lieu of BAAP, but it shouldn't take too much labor this time around, and BAAP's nice.

Funds

$1,300 for BAAP
