Layout & Graphics Software
Scribus is a free, open source layout program. Here are the top ten hints for using it.c
pdfjam seems to be the preferred way to turn separate 8.5"x11" pages into 11"x17" impositions
autotrace will convert bitmaps to vector graphics
inkscape is a free, open source vector graphics editing tool
Fonts: from manfred klein which seem to work well, but also read fonts in depth on Scribus. They recommend using the ghostscript fonts, in particular. You can download them, and others, at this link. If the font won't "embed" when you export to pdf from Scribus, don't use it.
Editing Help
Alert: Do not paste directly into the GUI editor from Word. It won't work. Instead, you can:
- "copy without formatting" in Word, and paste directly in
- paste into the Text editor, not the GUI editor (then change to GUI mode to format it)
- use the "paste from Word" function. But please do one of the other things, instead.
- Also: if it does give you an error rather than saving your changes, you can probably hit "back", then copy-and-paste your text from the editor, so you don't lose your work.
First thing: if you haven't made an account, do it now. You should have one when you edit, so we know who's who.
To edit a page that already exists, just go find it, and hit "edit" on the right. If you like your editor to have pretty pictures, hit Edit (GUI); otherwise hit Edit (Text). Edit away, don't worry.
If you're having trouble getting it to do what you want, check out HelpOnEditing or SyntaxReference to get started. It's really easy. No need to make anything look beautiful, as long as you get the content up -- the more familiar folks can make it look nice, later.
To make a new page, enter your page name here, all one word, please:
.. and follow your nose! Afterwards, (optional!) edit this page to add your page to the list of pages.
To add a file, like an image for the page, or a pdf to link to, first you'll need to "attatch" it to that page, using the link on the right (from the page you want to attach it to!). (don't see it? Log in first.) Then, you'll put it in with something like attachment:image.jpg.
To see what changes have been made for some page, go to the page, and hit info on the right panel. This will give you the history of changes made to a page; hit the "Diff" button to see what those changes were. (try it out at the ../StopBP-Berkeley page)

GA and ASUC Funding Sources and Timelines
Our Constitution.
GA Here are the Rounds and Deadline and Notification Dates for grant funding from the GA. It seems that we will not be able to make the Round 2 deadline and therefore will not be able to access GA funding before Feb 2008.
Round 1: September 21, 2007; Notified 10/5/07 Round 2: October 19, 2007; Notified 11/2/07 Round 3: January 25, 2008; Notified 2/8/08 Round 4: February 15, 2008; Notified 3/7/08 http://ga.berkeley.edu/funding/dates.php
ASUC There are three options for funding through the ASUC: Bill, Spring Funding, and Grants. http://www.asuc.org/studentorganizations/fundingandsponsorship.php
ASUC OPTION 1: Bill
Funding through a bill would likely take at least 6 weeks.
Week One: Student group leaders and bill sponsor(s) work to create the bill.
Week Two: Bill submitted by Tuesday morning at 9:00 am.
Week Three: Bill considered in Financial Committee on Monday night, and considered in Senate on Wednesday night. Bill may be amended, passed and/or failed.
Week Four & Five: ASUC Senate & Auxiliary complete administrative procedures.
Week Six: In order to access funds, the student organization must contact their ASUC Auxiliary advisor and complete a budget workshop.
ASUC OPTION 2: Spring Budgeting An application would be required in Spring 2008 and we would be considered for funding beginning in Fall 2008.
ASUC OPTION 3: Grants The grants are restricted to 6 funds, none of which quite fits us: Academic Opportunity Fund Intellectual Community Fund; Educational Enhancement Fund; Community Building Fund; Leadership Development Fund; Multicultural Fund. http://www.asuc.org/studentservices/grants.php
