Animal Rights

According to the University Relations Office, over 40,000 animals are housed on the Berkeley campus at the Northwest Animal Facility, for research and testing purposes. The facility is located underground at the corner of Hearst and Oxford, and access is highly restricted. Most are mice and cold-blooded animals, but the facility also houses non-human primates and other large mammals. In one previous experiment, neural electrodes were implanted into cats. Their pain response was measured only every 8 hours in experiments lasting up to eight days. Contact Berkeley Organization for Animal Advocacy (BOAA) for more info: www.ocf.berkeley.edu/~boaa/
